The publication of new data supporting the safety and efficacy of Caldolor (ibuprofen) Injection in pre and post-operative orthopedic surgery patients was announced. The study, which was published in the August edition of the peer-reviewed journal Pain Medicine, concludes that IV ibuprofen significantly decreased pain and morphine use when compared with placebo. Patients taking Eisai’s E5555 together with drugs currently used in standard treatment were no more likely to suffer the side effect than people taking placebos, the studies released today at the European Society of Cardiology Congress in Stockholm showed. The researchers tested E5555 in Japanese patients being treated for acute coronary syndrome or coronary artery disease, conditions that occur when plaque builds up in arteries and blocks blood flow. It may soon be possible to identify patients who will develop tuberculosis, as scientists have identified changes in the blood specific to the disease, blood transcriptional signatures. These findings are from an international study published in the August 19 issue of Nature and conducted by doctors and researchers using blood profiling techniques to understand infections. Roche's pipeline of cancer drugs faced another setback on Friday after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration rejected the Swiss drugmaker's request to fast-track a licence application for a new treatment. The drug trastuzumab-DM1 (T-DM1) comprises ImmunoGen's DM1 cancer-cell-killing agent linked to the HER2-targeting antibody trastuzumab, or Herceptin.
